Anyone train in Muay Thai here?
I'm looking for a good Muay Thai kickboxing gym around the 510 or 925 area. Does anyone have any suggestions? I went down to SJ and took a look at Cung Le's kickboxing gym, but it seems like more of a cardio kickbox fitness program than a real Muay Thai school. I want to train in real kickboxing, sparring, etc.

Cung Le's school actually teaches San Shou, not Muay Thai.
American Kickboxing Academy teaches American type kickboxing(more kicks and punches than elbows and knees). AKA is in San Jose. Frank Shamrock, BJ Penn and other UFC fighters roll through there once in a while. I trained there for a year, but didn't really like the way they taught.
I have had a hard time finding a authentic Muay Thai kickboxing school that is local. Fairtex is too far for me to drive twice a week to train up there. If anyone finds a good school, post it up.

Hard to find Muay Thai gyms in 510 and 925... I can tell you all the ones in the City though
I think there's one place in Oakland, like Cheetah Gym or something like that. I dunno how good/authentic they are though =\
Not too many places that are all-out traditional Muay Thai in general though. I mean with the cultural aspects and stuff (eg wai kru, ram muay, mae mai, luk mai, etc.). I'd love to find a gym like that...

Where is this Cheetah Gym at in Oakland? Do you have a phone number? More than likely it belongs to my first Muy Thai instructor, Cheetah. I trained with him for a year back in 97' out of Kings Boxing gym on E14th. If it's him, he fought in Thailand before coming to the US. Cheetah will train you good, especially if you tell him you want to fight.
Another good gym is Muy Thai USA in San Francisco off of 19th. I trained there with KruSam for a year back in 01' He's a cool guy and owns the gym himself. Evey year he and his crew take a camping trip and he does a numbr of endurance trainings including blind folded and underwater training. Expect to pay around $80 a month which includes access to the gym all hour its open and at least 6 lessons a week.
Training is a good way to keep in shape and not let alot of lifes daily BS get to you. Not to mention the idea that knowing you could whoop most people you come in contact with......it's a good feeling.

You trained at King's before? I train there with Yonas. I'd like to meet Cheetah too. I'm interested in getting into some hardcore Muay Thai. I'll combine that with all the Jiu Jitsu I learned before.
