Anyone running the Dunlop Star Specs? (Noise)
Anyone running these tires? I'm getting an oscillating hum/whine.
60-70, comes from the passenger side
70-80, comes from the drivers side
The overall loudness of the tires is fine, but the oscillating sound bothers me. Just wondering if anyone else has the same experience.
Quick checklist:
235/45/R17
The sound is easier to hear on smooth, quiet roads.
Tires are new, alignment done -- specs can be provided.
Tried various pressures.
Ensured the lugs were torqued properly.
No noise on stock wheels.

No worries. I did search, but wanted to hear more from fellow Suby owners. A few people mentioned (jokingly) that it sounded like a wheel bearing was going out. Overall, I didn't see too many complaints though.

This will tell you if it is a wheel/tire issue or something with the car.

My buddy has them on his Mazdaspeed 6. Yes they do hum at certain speeds, but the performance is worth the noise. Solution is to drive with the windows down or music up ![Smilie](https://www.i-club.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
All joking aside these tires have awesome ultimate grip in both wet and dry conditions. The tire wear through the life cycle has been excellent for this rating tire. There were never any tram-lining problems on the freeway, and its an attractive tread pattern.

I'm going to rotate them or try them on another WRX.
Yes, the increased noise amplitude isn't that bad, although it does drown out the beautiful exhaust sound! It's the hum that lasts 1-2 secs, goes away for 1-2 secs, comes back, etc. And the fact that it shifts sides depending on the speed. At least that's how my ears perceive it. Harmonics can be deceiving.

i just had star specs installed, and i hear the oscillating sound. i can't really hear it until after 70mph when i have my window open and my radio on. but it oscillates so quickly that it usually just sounds like one flat hum if i don't pay attention to it.
