Let me get this straight... Daniel is talking about something "roughly the size of a tennis ball". Last I checked a tennis ball is about 3" in Diameter. So what's up with all the posts for 2" *****?
I'm going to take a shot in the dark here and say that Daniel (being his ogre self) probably has some pretty big hands. I myself have a set of decently large mitts (XL glove size), I also currently have a 2" diameter shift **** and in my hand it is pretty small. I would prefer a size that fits more in the palm of my hand than in my first three fingers. And I think that is what Daniel is getting at.
Coming this weekend, I will potentially have access to a lathe and I plan to make a couple of *****. If I can find a hunk of material big enough, maybe, I can try to make a 3" monster ****.

Pretty cool... My pops made me a shift **** for my car when I was in high school, it was a stainless steel center covered in about 1/2" of Hawaiian Curly Koa wood and then encased in resin. It was large and heavy, and people would often comment about how huge my **** was, but it was very nice to use.
