anyone know of a race car for rent?

Hey guys, I wanna get a SCCA competition license, but I need a car to pass the license school in. Anyone have a SCCA legal car for rent or some such? I already called some of the regular rental places, their prices seem a bit steep - 1200$ of rental on a car thats worth ~7-8k total!

Also if anyone has a helmet or a suit for sale/rent (SCCA approved) - I'd hit that too - just trying to start racing on the cheap!

Larry Oka Racing used to have Datsun 510's for rent, maybe he still has them, and Miatas as well...

If you can physically get a hold of a copy of The Wheel, the SCCA publication, there are a few classifieds for rental race cars. I'd give you one if you want to pick it up.

thanks for the tips. i am looking through the wheel and I talked to Larry.
It still seems that 1200-1600 for 3 days (~6 hours of tracktime) is a little high for a car thats worth 5000-9000$ dollars to buy. I was wondering more if someone new of a car that was a little cheaper to rent - like one of the racers not using one this weekend or somethig. Just looking for options and my bank account :-)

If you look at the potential damage you could cause to the racecar you would be renting, I can certainly understand why Larry charges that much.

I'm not sure if you knew, but Larry has people paying that much $$$ day in-day out, and has been doing it for years, so he def. knows what he's doing.

Good luck in finding a seat!
