Awesome post Bluburu...I drive to LA all the time and I only go 152-->5 or 101. I think some of your routes mught just happen.

I need to figure out mileages for them.

Generally speaking, if you're in a hurry or trying to save gas, my routes are a bad idea. Some of those routes will take you over 10 hours. (Oh, but GOOD hours!!!)

Also: anyone who is lowered and/or allergic to rock chips and brush-scratches should probably avoid the last three.

I totally agree with this.

There is no way on 101 to avoid the congestion at Santa Barbara (If you know one, please share...), but taking 126 over to 5 will save you all the slow-downs south of Ventura.

AWESOME! i knew i could count on you guys. i ended up taking 1 south to 152 and mangaged to accidentally end up on 129(?!) then to 101 and from that point i just said F it. turns out people did average around 80 but were nice enough to let me past for the most part. i averaged a bit higher than that. i got kind of a later start than expected.
anyway, thanks again guys for al your help.

17 into SJ
280 South/ Becomes 680N
Exit Alum Rock- Turn right
Go up hill, turn right onto hwy 130...

Up and over the observitory, and when you hit a juction where the junction cafe is, turn right... this is the continuation of 130. You will end up at Patterson, off I-5

This is twisty as hell. From alum rock, at a good pace, you should hit patterson in a few hours.
