Holes saws don't do a great job with clean edges. They tear the crap out of the wood. If you're doing a full bore, from one side to the other, there's a couple things you can do: Place a piece of scrap under the work piece while cutting. This lets the bit do it's work without "pushing" through the last bit of material. If it's a veneer, use some blue painters tape over the area you're working. This works well for cutting plywood veneers with a circular/table saw as well. Mark your cut line right on the tape. As long as your blade isn't crap it's won't splinter.
