Anyone for abalone diving/shorepicking on Memorial Day?

I want to go but a lot of my friends are out of town or not in the mood to go. If anyone has ever wanted to try it or get into it, I can show them.

I can barely swim so I won't be doing any diving. I'll just be walking out to the rocks and picking abalone off of rocks at Fort Ross, CA, which is about 2 hours north of SF. I can almost guarantee that if you follow me, you will go home with at least one abalone and perhaps the legal limit of 3. A low tide of -1.80 feet is at 6:19am on Monday and Sunrise is at 5:53am so that means that we'd have to leave SF ideally at about 3:30am. That way, we arrive and can get suited up and get into the water right at sunrise. Ideally we won't spend more than an hour and a half in the water looking for these critters.

This isn't for everyone since it's not only at the butt crack of dawn but also requires a small investment for licenses and equipment. If you are about 5'4-5'7" and are skinny and weigh about 120-140, I have two 7mm wetsuits you could borrow. But you'd still need the following:

Booties: ~$25
Gloves: ~$15
Snorkel and Mask: ~$60
(Fins optional and not necessary if you are not diving)
Fishing License and Abalone Licenses: $60
Abalone Pry Bar and Measuring Gauge: $15
7mm Wetsuit: YMMV
Float is optional and runs about $35. You can borrow mine if you provide your own inner tube which is $12 from Kragen.

Any takers? I wouldn't mind going again on Tues too.
