I was just about to say the same thing. The last thing I want to do is be on the ground in a street fight. Next thing I know I'll be standing up with a knife sticking out of my neck...lol. The only reason I'd be in a street fight is if I'm defending my life. I'll throw a few rappid succession punches, if I don't knock the mother F'er out I'm getting the hell out of dodge...Once you're out numbered, you're pretty much F'd.

Considering most street fights last 30 seconds, you wanna be in and out as fast as you can.

Did Muay Thai at Fight and Fitness before, but stopped because it was a bit too far from home. Then did judo/jiu jitsu at the San Francisco Judo Institute 'til I messed up my left knee and ankle a bit.
Just got over my injuries recently and am thinking of finding another school due to a revised schedule that keeps me from going back =\

I need a place that's flexible in terms of open hours. SF Judo Institute only trains on Monday and Thursday nights, and I have night classes that keep me from going back unfortunately. The place is a non-profit and super cheap (works out to about 5/class if you don't miss any sessions per month), so I guess they can open and close whenever they damn please haha.

So at any rate Sephy, here's your chance gimme some ideas haha. Keep in mind I like full contact styles And that I'm getting fat from not training

Cross train judo/jujitsu with muy thai and you have a pretty solid combo.

At my school, we offer Hapkido, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Muay Thai kickboxing. I'll try and get a digital scan of our schedule soon.

Kajukenbo here. It's a good mix of stuff but my school doesn't do enough ground work. If you get wrapped up with someone the fight is going to the ground. Arm bars and submission holds FTW.

If you wind up wrapped up with someone in a fight, then you're not doing something right...or at least what I learned. That was a lifetime ago, but I was taught to keep that person from coming in too close to you, or if they do, you aim for the throat...to kill, not to injure.

I love it - great combination of strike type movements from Tae Kwon Do, plus the grappling and groundfighting techniques of Judo and Jiujitsu. Not the mention the owner, Steve Menasche, is a really good guy.

If you want to give it a try, feel free to come to class with me some evening - he will often give a free couple of classes for a newbie to see if they are interested in Hapkido specifically.
