dam by any chance can you tell us where you went so we dont got there?
The smog tech I went to put my car on a lift and checked every single hose/pipe I had with a flashlight. Same with the hood popped. I don't think many smog techs will be as lenient as stated. Best to throw your stock DP on, shouldn't need to re-flash just stay out of boost until you get your aftermarket DP back on.

Why are you surprised?
I took mine to a place with no cats at all, it didn't pass the sniffer but it didn't fail the visual. They didn't even mention it. I don't even think they noticed, because the mechanics there even tried to drive it around and warm it up to see if it'd pass. Eventually I ended up just getting the stock dp on there, and it passed, with stage 2 tune.
I'd imagine even some of the crazier setups would pass the sniffer if you have a cat on there because we only have to do the 2 speed idle, and at 2500 rpm there's no boost so a big turbo wouldn't matter. It's just a matter of if they pass you on visual.
Also, if you do reflash (which you shouldn't have to, since you don't have to drive like a maniac to get there), can't you just force it to be ready? Maybe that's not an option with the cobb, but you can do it with a tactrix.
It's a good idea to go to a place that will give you a free re-test (I dunno if they all do it, or just some), but I didn't have to pay for the second time I took it in.

Sorry for the hijack, but what about u guys with the upgraded turbos and supporting mods? Has anyone just thrown on the stock dp and pass without reflashing the ecu? I'm due for smog in the coming months and have the upgraded turbo/supporting mods/EcuTek, plus wrapped headers. U guys think keeping the headers on would be ok?

And why is that?
Last time I went to get my car smogged (2 years ago), I still had my AP plugged in
Guy asked me what it was, told him it was an engine management system. He looks at me and says "good, so i guess you dont have any check engine light codes then"
then asked me where all my O2 sensors where and said that he;ll just take my word that they are there.
I was the first AWD subaru he had done in his shop
Ill be going back there within the next week or two to smog again
