any runners out there?
Ok heres my dilemma. Uncle sam makes me take a physical aptitude test every once in a while and I hate running. I need to be able to run 2miles in under 15:54. I know to some of you that may be cake, but buddha didn't design me for running. I use to be able to do it in the mid 15s but i've gotten lazy. If i dont pass this i cant get promoted. so who can help me out?
Does anyone have any tips are running faster for a longer period of time? I run out of steam kinda quick or just advice in general. Or better yet who here in this caring subaru community would like to pace me Thanks reading my ramblings.

No but try upping your carb intake. Eat tons of pasta or rice. It will give you that extra boost.
Also Try running for about 15-20 mins(or until your body warms up) before you stretch.

Check the workouts on Runnersworld.com. Most of the training intervals are for 5K, 10K, 1/2 and full marathon. At least you can get some training ideas. Here's an example:

Here is my advice on exercise.
Find a plan you can stick to. If your goals are too big, you will never
get there. If you make it too difficult, you will lose motivation and give up.
part of this is where your going to exercise. If you pick some track
thats 20 miles away and has no lights, then you'll always find some reason
to not make it there. If you can find a two mile loop that starts at your
front door, you will be much more likely to run that.
And. Get some good shoes. You will mess your knees up if you
run in crappy old shoes. There are some good local stores in Oakland
that can fit you with a shoe to match your foot. This is even
more important if you plan to run on cement.
If you can, find a buddy to run with. You can motivate each other.
Get a watch, time yourself. Write it down on your calendar.
Keep going and try to beat your last time. I find this works well
for me.
As armlock asked, how long till your test?

Just run 3-4 mi a day at a little bit slower pace...8-8.5 min miles. Then just book *** on the day of the test! lol
<----bad advice giver, but that's how I'd prepare. Nothing like fear of losing money to make me run fast.

can anyone recommend a good light weight running shoe?
the next official test, if you didnt pass the one in november, is in january. But i want to get it over with by the start of december so i can get promoted. Its not that i'm not capable of passing it just i let myself get too lazy after they give u a big lecture about not getting lazy when u get back to the civilian world. my only consellation is that my pushups and situps went up but my run sucks donkey *****. So who wants to run with me.

Is the test at a oval track or cross country? An oval test would make it easy since you can go to any school w/ a track and bring a stop watch. Remember that you start to lose aerobic endurance in as little as 2 days. I would suggest running every other day. Everyday will probably be hard on your joints since you're having pain in them already. Ice your knees immediately after running for about 20 minutes. The meal after your run should be your smallest, not the biggest. This parts hard since running will make you hungry. Drink lots of water. Drink throughout the day regardless of whether your thirsty or not. If you feel thirsty, you're already dehydrated.

its a 1/4mi track. 8laps=2miles. Personally i hate running on a track. i rather run on a 2mi road. funny u mention hydration. The army has these little signs they post on top of urinals that tell you how hydrated you are based on the color of ur urine. they really take their water/hydration very seriously. And i was definitely not hydrated enough for the run, cramps on my side, which is another stupid mistake by me.
