I would agree if you said lots of roadies are douches etc etc etc. haaaaa. I'm not a roadie by any means. I used to race mountain bikes and road on the road over 200 miles a week. One day a week was my sprint training and I used a road bike for that. Still have it. haaaa.
As for getting hit. Once I was riding about 10 inches from the curb... talking inside of that grey area next to a curb and a car hit me with their mirror. Sent me into the curb, across the curb in the air and into those nasty thorny bushes that way to many houses have bordering their lawn full of spider webs... sucked. Another time a girl was pulling out of a parking lot and didn't even look at me. Smack me in the leg. No big deal. Etc etc.
I will admit to contributing to the big one though. I was riding on the wrong side of the road, facing traffic. She pulled out of a driveway and didn't look my direction. Got me good.

Did I point out I also hate 99.9999999% of the drivers in NorCal?...most of them wouldn't last a hour in L.A.

and damn...you already talking about upgrades, haha...you have a f4sl, you should get a higher end bike so you can forget upgrades....

Upgrade wise... I wouldn't worry about them until you need to or get more time in the saddle. Then you can buy stuff you need. Upgrade spots would be wheels, pedals, bars, stem, seat post, seat, gears, derailer....etc.
But like I said, I wouldn't worry about any of that just yet. Just go ride.

yea...i mean seriously, the f4sl is already a great bike...no need to upgrade at all....
owning a brand new bike and already thinking about upgrade, then I think you picked out the wrong bike already....
just take it out and ride...

I'm in the south bay (south sj), but i'm up for rides anywhere.
I'm not looking to upgrade anything for a long time. But I do love hearing about mods and upgrades.....this is a car forum right
I was more interested about hearing other peoples rides/rigs upgrades and stories.
I got a REALLY good price on my bike btw. I'll be betting it's even cheaper now that 2010's are coming out.

Hey Akira - I'm a roadie and am game for doing some rides if you need a buddy. I have a few friends I ride often with, and we normally spin up where I live all the way down to San Jose as well.
I've done a bunch of local and around the bay 100k rides, a few 100 mile routes, etc. I'm currently training for Solvang's Finest Century in November, so I'm on my rig pretty much every day. I have a ton of routes that you'd love if you're just getting started.
And enjoy your bike - esp since you have a really nice one. You might find out there are two types of rodies out there....the ones who just enjoy the ride and living that healthy lifestyle, and those who swap parts, drop $5k on a CF frame, and shave their legs. If you're out there on the road with us and have a smile on your face, I'm game to ride with ya.
Shoot me a PM so we can ride. I've been riding for a long time so I can even shoot some tips out or show you some nice routes.

yo dude. lets get an iclub peloton together. mt biking is my main sport i'd say, but i have a Giant TCR for training on the road.
i'd say for upgrades, i wouldnt really think about it unless you're having a FIT issue. quality and weight of components do not matter nearly as much as how the bike fits your body. crank lengths, handle bar width/reach, stem angle/length, seatpost offset all determine how comfortable you will be while riding, which is the most important aspect when on a long long ride.

Not that I'm going to endear myself to Overbear, but I do ride from time to time. I'm in the process of getting into shape for the Konocti Challenge on Oct. 3rd the Pedal the Puddle 100k around the lake...
...and two weeks later the 100k Tour de Vine is calling my name. If you're interested, PM me and we can meet up and ride some between now and then. My favorite ride for distance training is from Sebastopol to Forestville, on through Guerneville to Jenner, then dropping down to Bodega Bay, then on to Bodega...
...now to finish the loop back into Sebastopol.

GL with the Konocti challenge I know a few riders who did that and I've been through the course, since I'm from there. All I can say is the scenery is pretty nice and the air is very very clean!. And if you want to know of some fun roads to take in your subie on your way home let me know.
But with road bikers i hate some don;t others. The ones who ride in the middle of the road going 5mph when there is plenty of room to either side to let me go by can go die. The ones who are nice and let me know when to pass on blind corners in the twisties are ok in my book.

I also ride a road bike and would be totally down for a i-club ride! We could do the GG bridge to tiburon ride. Thats hella fun i've done it a few times with buddies. Also out in my area the Ironhorse trail I ride sometimes it goes from concord to dublin pleasanton area.
Im not in any great road biking shape but if we cruise I can hang all day im sure.
And speaking on what Overbear has been saying. You sound as if YOU think that you own the road and are exactly that a-hole that you think that road bikers are. Like you have some devine right to have the waves of traffic part so you can make it to your destination without the hint of inconvienience. It doesn't work that way.
When I ride my bike its just as if I were riding a motorcycle, you have to assume that no one can see you at all. Most likely they can't! I was driving home on Marsh Creek rd today and saw a road biker riding with traffic on windy two lane road with abolutely no shoulder at all. I mean none, like white line and then a drop off to dirt, all the while not wearing a helmet either. I don't know what he was thinking. Everytime I get out of the road even with a nice shoulder I feel like I'm tempting fate. I don't usually wear a helmet but I also try and stick to trails for the most part.

This is the ride I was suggesting in PM. Nothing too major as far as elevation changes, one medium hill, mostly small stuff. It took me ~5.5 hours with a lunch break in Duncan's Mills.
Been there, did it last year!! Got the jersey (as a reward) for completing it without stopping (on course) except the rest stops.

Would that be Hwy. 175 between Lakeport and Hopland, or possibly Bottle Rock Rd., perhaps Giant Valley Rd. between Cobb and Middletown, or maybe a jaunt out Highland Springs Rd. to Old Toll Rd. leading back into Hopland on a nice dirt road? Kelseyville High School class of 'OMG, I'm old - yeah...
Ok i guess you know the fun roads then! There is a few in Clearlake by the oaks and stuff that are in kinda of crappy condition and are cliffs straight down. And you went to Kelseyville high... BOO!! Lower Lake has always been better :P

Include me in the mix please...I am down for a ride anytime. Last weekend I did the SF - Tiburon ride with friends and it was pretty fun. Wound up at Sam's for drinks and had to ferry it back since I had a little bit too much to drink.
