OP needs to try one of two things connect the speakers to a known working amp/receiver to clear the speakers of being the problem.
Or/And
Get a known working speaker (one with a mid and tweet preferably, can be a car speaker really at this point you just want to see if it can push the higher frequencies) and connect to the receiver.

Where are you located OP?

OK UPDATE

my buddy came over with his floorstandings...the result...I have some blown speakers..his speakers when plugged in, sounded crisp and clear...we also changed setting on his and sound was awesome..

We look at the ones I bought closely and somethings didnt add up...Upon noticing the serial number for the speakers and box..guess what THEY DONT MATCH..production date of the speakers are March 2011, and the box has a different serial with a production of April 2011. Looking at the box,it looked retaped, and i looked at the bottom base to where the stand screws it looked like it was screwed on as there is some wood shavings from overtightening...man i feel like i got ripped off.

FML.... I ordered these from the Amazon site and now I gotta deal with Amazon and one if its stores to return it and get a new one. Amazon will be in contact with them tomorrow.

thanks for everyone that chimmed in!..Im glad we got some good experts in here...

Glad you were able to figure it out. Time to shop for some decent/good speakers in your price range. FYI STAY AWAY FROM PIONEER SPEAKERS unless your dropping coin and even then PICK ANOTHER BRAND!! (i have pioneer towers in my garage but i have replaced all of the speakers with non Pioneer speakers LOL.)

might i suggest going to new egg they have some good deals. dealing with them for returns is easier than amazon can be too.

some energy towers Newegg.com - Energy EF-500 Tower Speaker Pair
those should work fine with your setup.
or some polk studio monitor 60s
Newegg.com - Polk Audio Monitor60 Series II Floorstanding Loudspeaker (Black) Each

Wow, that sucks, but at least you figured it out. I hope you didn't buy them from a private party.

FYI: I'd avoid Polk's lower stuff like the plague also.

If you are interested, let me know roughly how much you want to spend and I can point you to some solid speakers.

Ya i think im going away from Pioneer, reason I chose these was it was designed by a guy named Andrew Jones who designed the KEF and Infinity Orchestra speakers. They actually do sound pretty great..

Pioneer Introduces New Home Theater and Music Speakers | Pioneer Electronics USA

But now i gotta deal with returning it, if amazon doesnt do it, I may just have to do a chargeback with the bank but Im sure Amazon will take care of me.

thanks guys!

What polk models do you consider the lower end?
I have a pair of the monitor 70s and they sound very good esp for their price.

From the current ones, I wouldn't buy Polks until the RTiA line. The R line is garbage. The Monitor line is OK, and no offense and it is just my opinion, but there are better speakers in the price range than them; even from Newegg. The Infinity Primus line is pretty much the go-to speaker from a big name manufacturer when on a budget. Speakers are the most important thing when it comes to sound, so spending money on them rather than other things, is the easiest way to improve your sound.

If you have the funds, there are a number of great internet direct speaker companies that give you a lot of bang for your buck as well.
