$25 plus beer to replace pads. I know its not a hard think to do but you will be paying a shop more then that. I would say you would get a better response from other members to do this if you offered them better compensation. Say something along the lines of what a shop would charge you.
Typically my friends and I don't charge each other to fix each others cars (when someone knows something someone else doesn't), we just take one another out to dinner or buy them beer... When someone asks me to fix something on their cars (before my damn tools got stolen) I woudn't even ask them for a dime, I'd do it as a favor, for i-club... Even if I didn't really know the person, I'd just ask for a 6 pack or something, and thats IF they offered it.
Since when do people pay members of this forum retail shop price for installation help?
I wouldn't even need them to do the work, maybe just hold a flashlight and lend me their tools.

Mike AT GST for the win again. That guy is the biggest life saver on earth. He's even opened up shop on Xmas day just to help me out, now that says something.
I didn't know AutoHQ was close to Fremont... I thought they were in Watsonville or something. Or is that FLI? Regardless, never been there and thought they were far since most people around the fremont area go to GST

That's strange. I was under the impression that a shop needs to be registered with the BAR and have a valid Auto Repair Dealer license in order to work on cars in CA. Otherwise they'd be doing something illegal...

GST deals with the aftermarket too right? But yet, even your business and most other local performance shops got a BAR license. Maybe that's just part of doing business like how you're supposed to.

A lot of places are just cheap and don't want to spend the $200 something it costs to get the license. For example there's this bodyshop I know of in the city that's been open for years and they don't have a license either. I'm surprised BAR hasn't caught on yet. Oh well one phone call and a visit can change all that. Lol.

That's an interesting sidebar regarding the aftermaket. But still, I'm pretty sure that any shop that works on a car's safety equipment (i.e. brakes, bodywork, crash beams, etc) has to register with the BAR and have a valid ARD license. Are oil changes and maintenance jobs not considered general repair?

We're a member of the BAR because a lot of work we conduct as you pointed out does fall under it's governing, what other businesses do or do not do I am unaware of as it's not really anything to do with me.
