Did a quick search and found this on the Valvoline site FAQ:

Is it ok to use 5w30 in a car if the owner's manual calls for 5w20?

Some manufacturers now use 5w20 engine oil to maximize fuel economy for certain applications. Using a 5w30 type of oil may cause a slight decrease in fuel economy. For maximum engine performance, Valvoline suggests following the recommended motor oil viscosity and maintenance schedule provided in your vehicle's owner manual.

Thanks for reply peoples!

Y'all got technical with the weights it's funny!

I usually run 10w30 amsoil and I burn zero. Whereas motul 5w30 I burn half a quart. Mobil1 5w30 1quart!!!(first time I got the car and never used it since) You all know that already. And I only use oem filters. I am fully stocked with that!

I know online is cheaper etc but Really the point if this thread is obtaining access for the two oils locally since they are hard to find or expensive.

Winchester is charging 10.95/qt!

Rotella t6 is even cheaper and can be found at most Walmarts, but it is 40W.
Hmm I might give it a try since the price is somewhat decent w/disc

on Junction & Charcot in San Jose (inside Club Autosport) keeps a ton of Amsoil on the shelf.
It's where I get mine, they keep gallon jugs so it's cheaper for an oil change
do you know how much?

I've been running the 5w40 Euro Amsoil for 7k miles now and I've gotten 2 great UOAs out of it so I might just stick with it.

Nope, it's been a little while. Just call them... or stop by, you're in San Jose.

Yeah, the current stuff sold in the US is not as good as the old formula. There's an oil thread with a whole discussion on that. The formulation changed so it isn't the same. I had no problems running M1 in my other N/A cars for years, but the WRX eats it like candy.

My uncle is a retired Santa Clara County Sheriff and he said they used Amsoil in their vehicles so he started using it in his and now swears by it. Is there a difference with the Euro? Like the difference between the Euro and US Mobil 1?

So a slight milage penalty means less mpg? Never noticed that with my wrx...always get 22-25mpg depending on my right foot

He carries all type of stuff. Not quite San Jose, but he rolls all over the bay area and can meet up with you.
