Everyone talks about why not go fmic, or the dom 2.5r is out powered by the 3.0r. Why not get that turbo? Well looks like xx05stixx has the same kind of goals that I was shooting for with my build. It's not the price of the build, it's about quality parts that perfom but spool like (or better) that stock.
Fmic does not fall in that category for reducing spool being it has 6 feet of extra charge piping. And the 3.0r is more on line with a 3076, while the dom 2.5r is more of a fast spooling like my 3071. Hell at one point I was convinced I was gonna go with a gt2871r, but Ed talked me out of it, lol.
Imagine a car that can make close to 400 whp with almost supercharger like response. That's my goal

^^^ I agree...From the research I've done and tuners I've talked to, that turbo is a good choice for your goals. I you want the retain the street driveablility and minimize lag/spool time you are better off with the 2.5r. Sure bigger turbos have more power but you sacrifice driveability on the street. You can still make 330hp to the wheels and add meth for 350-360, with about the same tq. I will be going with this turbo as well. Although I may stick w/ the stock top mount I/C at first. Have you already put in bigger injectors and EL header? Let us know how this goes!
As far as headers, I'm not a fan of EL headers. I know you can extract a bit more power with them but just cant let go of that wonderful Subie rumble.

Is the Dom 2.5r a 3" inlet? I seem to remember it being a 2.5? If thats the case the 3071r would have that advantage of using a 3" inlet to allow that biotch to breathe

I looked at it and it looks like a 2.5. So even if you ran a APS 70mm or a Perrin 3" inlet you would be tapering to 2.5". Just food for thought. I've been told that the 30r like a large inlet, and the standard gt3071r that just has a T3 flange (like the ones used on rotated kits) has a massive 4" inlet!
