I worked with a guy in the composites buisness (carbon fiber) who went on to be an engineer for Tesla. I'd like to contact him and see what he knows about this future development.

They don't have a proper factory yet. The roadster was just to gain attention and prove the technology.

all im saying is the sedan has 0-60 in 5.6 compared to the roadster's 4.0

so that 1.4 second difference is probably all in the sedans extra weight. So the two cars have the same type of power source i assume. So why the huge price difference?

The early sharp calculators in the late 1960's could add, subtract multiply and divide numbers up to 8 digits long, and cost about $2000.

Today you can go to any store and buy a calculator that has those functions for about, Oh I don't know- what maybe $3 or $4?

It's called "economy of scale"- it always costs a LOT more to build the first 1-2, then a little less for the next couple hundred units- especially whenever you are looking at new technology- the production costs start to come down significantly once you gear up to build things in the thousands ot tens of thousands, which is where Tesla plans to go with their 4-door.

And yes I'd expect on 5-10 years the roadster, or whatever model replaces it will be less expensive than the first 2 years of production were.
