Exclamation 2007 Subaru STi VS 2009 Lexus IS350-F

My friend just got one and thinks its the fastest thing on earth, I haven't ridden in it yet but he's going to take it to the track next month and he's sure that he'll smoke mildly modified STi's in the 1/4 mile. The car comes with 306hp & 277lb/ft.

Lets take a mildly modded STi and wage it against him on paper, lets say a COBB AP with a stock tune, and cat back, which is around 245whp & 265lb/ft to the wheels.

What are your predictions for the track day? He has a manual and he's a pretty decent driver. He had an IS300 before this and says you can't compare the two cars to each other, two totally different cars.

His car looks like it's fun, some good power, RWD, but I'd hardly call it an M3 killer like everyone is calling it (by everyone, I mean 1 magazine and my friend), even with the optional exhaust and intake that increase power to 350. Why is this car being hyped up to be such a fast car? I mean it weighs 3600lbs almost, it's def not light weight... I don't know why everything thinks its all that.

List Price = $42,525

Curb Weight = 3527 lb.

Horsepower = 350 hp @ 6400 rpm(est) (with optional intake and exhaust)

Torque = 277 lb.-ft. @ 4800 rpm(stock)

Transmission = 6-speed automatic

CHASSIS

Layout = RWD

Brake system f/r = disc/disc, ABS (Big *** 14" 4 pots!)

Wheels = Forged Alloy

Tires = Michelin Pilot Sport S2

Front = 225/35ZR19

Rear = 255/35ZR19

Steering = Electronic Power Steering

Suspension, f/r = Double wishbone

I figured the STi would have the advantage from a stop since it has more HP and torque, but wasn't sure about the AWD in the long run which is why I asked for the 1/4 mile.

Yes, the car is beautiful, I wish my wife had one but she's so set on a mini. (I like Minis but so many other cars I wish we could get as a second)

is it an IS350 with F-Sport accessories or is it an IS-F?

Crap, whats the difference? I just assumed he had a manual because he was talking about shifting, but I guess he could have been talking about shifting a sequential or something. Now I'm confused! Why you try to confuse!?

IS-F is a V8 and automatic only. If you said V6 and hes shifting im guessing its a IS350. You should handle it no problem if its an is350

Ah! That's where the confusion comes in. I'm pretty sure he has a V6 because he was talking about how an intake and exhaust make 350hp.

How much HP does the IS-F have? Does it look any different?

Ah! Now I remember the topgear episode with the IS-F! They gave it bad ratings compared to the M3. And why on earth did they go with fake tail pipes!?

IS-F has over 400hp and is differentiated by more aggressive body work and the twin-stacked (fake) pipes. You shouldn't have any problems with the IS-350. It's quick and very luxurious, but it's no sports car. It has similar horse power to a stock STI and I think it's a bit heavier? I believe that the IS-350 only comes with an automatic with a manumatic. As far as the quarter, the STI will get the lexus at launch and the 350 just doesn't have the hp to make up the difference in the distance given. That's my guess. People with direct experience should have better insight. I also assume that the IS is heavier than the STI. It's a bigger car with more amneties.

So you have a heavier, bigger, similar to stock STI horsepower car, with an automatic gear box. I'd say the odds are stacked in your favor. But hey, I'm biased cause I own an STI too.

only the IS250 comes with six speed manual, rest of the IS lineup are six-speed paddle shift. If he has the ISF then I say he might beat the STi since they say that the ISF quarter mile is 13 secs, but it also depends on the driver.

you know why he thinks that? because its a lexus, he just thinks that a car that is more luxurious and more expensive will beat the sti. thats basically the way of thinking, i know because there are a lot of kids around here with is350's and 250's that there mom and pops bought them..... i used to think it was a nice car. but now since so many ppl have em...... i no longer like it lol.

subaru ftw.

The isf is a 5.0 v8 with over 400hp, sorry to say but the isf will f that's Sti up in the 1/4. They are fast and very well built cars, also with the paddle shifters it makes shifts fast and really smooth. If you can drive good u might get a good run on him.
