typically a group buy is when you get a discount by buying a large order, we would have to arange that through SGP though. The group buy was for the painting

Are you experienced in these sort of things? Can you negotiate us a deal?

A "group buy" is when a group buys the same product in volume to save $$$.

when you get together and install it that's an "install day"

group buy would require someone takeing orders and collecting $$$ then makeing the order for the bulk buy.

My understanding was that the buying power of a large group of people making a batch-order with a vendor would help bring down the individual price of a part by purchasing in bulk. O.K., so Keith has just confirmed that I'm not crazy. So, I guess there's no group-buy on the spoiler itself, just the paint job?

I was just planning on throwing a Krylon-bomb at it and calling it a day.

Then maybe I should send SGP an e-mail asking them if they are willing?
Should we take a head count of who is intrested?

Yes, for the head count you usually make a new thread in this forum...

https://www.i-club.com/forums/vendor-group-buys-specials-146/

...and write up a good description and maybe some pics. Tell how many people you will need and the price.

So get the head count of people who are intrested before e-mailing them?

I am very inexperienced in this sort of thing so you will have to excuse me. If someone more experienced with this sort of thing who has done this before or knows what they are doing can organize this I would appreciate it.

Have we ever done a group buy with SGP?

After re-reading the thread twice I think I figured out what's going on.

From what I gather (Correct me if I am wrong). We want to get two seperate group buys going. A Group buy for the actual spoilers themsleves and a Group buy for the painting of the spoilers.

The first one I figure one of us will have to talk to SGP and see if they are inrested.

The second one I have no idea how its going to work as if I post a group buy notice in the general group buy forum for painting the spoilers, how will it work if we dont live in the same area? I am guessing the painting will have to be a East Bay thing?

No, you should make sure a group buy is even possible with the shop you are going through. Call (or email) them and ask them if you can, and then how many people you will need to get a certain price.

i.e. $225 for 10 people
$200 for 20 people
etc.

And then post up if it's a go.

EDIT: I think you figured it out.

Then everyone sends the money to me and I buy it or something? Or do we all send our money to them and they mail it out?

Well I wrote the letter. Here it is
------------
Hello SubaruGenuineParts,

My name is Arya Bahmanyar and I am from the website www.i-club.com.

A lot of us on the website are intrested in purchasing your 2007 STI Limited rear spoilers to put on our cars and we were wondering wether or not you would be supportive of a Group Buy.

The general consensus of everyone is that we want to try to get the price down to $200 Flat (Or whatever you are willing to go down to). If you are willing to drop the price to $200 or an amount of your choice and participate in the group buy how many people would it take to reach our desired price?

If you could get back to me with a response I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you
-Arya Bahmanyar

What do you guys think?

I think you need to wait for the reponse from SGP first before you go any further with this. Your first post mentioned "group buy", and now I feel like I'm being jerked around.
