the higher octane fuel on a map tuned for lower octane is less likely to predetonate, thus reducing the possibility of a mishap with the current map.

someone correct me if i'm wrong.

sounds right. that is what Ed recommended the drivers with turbocharged vehicles to do. mix in a little bit of 100oct.

Ha ha, yeah I guess 9 posts in 5 years is pretty weak. Anyways, I've never researched getting a new engine built. I'm leaning towards getting a short block that is stock or close to stock. I don't think I want to spend ton of money on a built motor if there's a non-zero chance I'll blow through it again anyways at some point in the future. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks a ton!

well i guess find out what happend to yours first. Get better pistons and hardware to start with. If your going to stay stage 2 you will be fine with that. Aluminum radiator and oil cooler ftw!

Forged pistons and forged internals are only an additional couple hundred dollars, in the grand scheme of building an engine it's well worth the extra investment if you plan on modding.

Jhammer, I'm the guy who was wearing the army shirt with the wrb sti. Nice talking to you and good luck with the sti. Might be worth your while to take a look at the raw performance short blocks since you need a new case anyways. Their stage one block is basically a oem shortblock wih forged CP pistons. Before I just went with rebuilding my block I was seriously leaning toward that motor, and the price is right at around $2600 I believe. Hope to see you at another track day.

Jon, it sucks that the driving part of your day got cut short, that 100+ degree heat out there does a number on our cars. After one of the sesions, i came back into the paddocks and felt my spearco tmic and it was burning hot, i couldn't believe the thing was still making power. After picking up Matt's car on the way home and then going back for yours , Adam and I didn't get back to the shop till about 1am, we were past the point of tired.....
We'll get your motor out and torn down as soon as we can to get you rolling again, Matt's as well.
