Great Pic!
I'm curious though - a Nikkor 80-400vr?? aren't they a bit on the slow side (focusing). Just wondering what you thought, cause I'm debating if I should get this lens as well.
TIA

The 80-400 is a 'so-so' lens. VERY SLOW focus on my old D100 but peppy on the D2X (the d2x has a focus motor with five times more hampster power) On the D100 and probably the D70 I would say it is almost unusable for fast action photography. You can use it but every now and then it goes into this slow noisy hunt for focus.
If you can afford it the 70-200 is the sweetest lens for motorsports. Just about the right range for autox and track.
sorry for the confusion
Doug
here are the rest of the shots from that day

Agreed the 70-200 VR is a beautiful lens for sports photography- I have one as well an older non af-s 80-200 f2.8.
I am envious of the D2X though...(cries). Can't justify one to the wife for now...
As for the 80-400 I've been holding off on this because of the slow focus speed. But apparently that's by design (according to Nikon). Not the best sports lens but a great handheld (because of the VR).
looking forward to seeing more great pics from you!
