^^^ A residence in FL alone might not, but a residence in FL and in DC certainly could...esp if both are multihomed... (read below)

Still...you can host in the best datacenter out there, but that datacenter can still get hit by some act-of-God and go down.

The only way to really keep a site up 24x7 is to not only have redundant hardware & data links, but to also keep another set of servers in a completely different REGION.

If you have servers in DC and in LA, the likelyhood that BOTH would be down at the same time is very close to zero.

And if you want to get even closer to zero...add a 3rd, location...

I'm not lying

I have no idea how much Nick makes off of NASIOC, no-one but Nick knows that.

So, all numbers in this thread are pure speculation.

Give Nick some credit here. He boasts the largest online community of Subaru owners and he has a hugely successful web site. The very fact that all of us are here on i-Club bantering about it proves that.

I know that I haven't paid one thin dime to Nick for using the site, and it has been extremely helpful in working on my WRX. There is no way I could put a dollar amount on that.

The fact that many of us, including myself, Monday morning quarterbacked Nick when his site went down, just makes me sick. I'm sure Nick is feeling the same way right now.

I, for one, will offer whatever help I can provide to help Nick through this situation. I think the rest of you should step up to the plate, as well.

Nick didn't create anything. He STOLE from Alex get it right. So don't bestow credit where it is certainly NOT due. I never understood why Alex didn't sue Nick. I would of if someone stole my property and idea.

Its funny but I can't help but laugh at him and how stupid he is. You know I thought about it why would he host it at home? Maybe its so that no one can pull the same stunt he did to Alex. Who knows, but for certain how stupid he is just shinned through.

Learn a little history about the sites and what Nick did before you start saying "we" should step up to the plate as well. I would never help him out, he is scum in my book. On top of all that I would never trust him in a business partnership of ANY kind. Guy's a thief plain and simple. And hardly loves Subaru's, Nasioc is a business to him. I thought that was common knowledge by now.

Hardly, its a rough estimate. I'd put money on it that he makes easily over 100k a year. Do the math its not that hard.

Not one of them will touch what I said. Its a little bit of history that Nick's little **** suckers love to ignore. Yet ask them how many of them would trust Nick to run a website with them that made a profit. And either they will lie and say they trust him 100% or just refuse to answer.

I just don't understand why someone would build a psuedo datacenter in their home when the ILEC does not care about even 5x T-1 lines. That is at most $4K to them a month. Does not get you much priority. Where as an actual datacenter gives much more reliability.

Verio did not have any issues with internet access, they had issues with their generators failing and not being able to repair them:
http://home.verio.com/support/files/networkstatus.cfm

I couldn't find anything else via google and network status pages.

I would look north of Florida for a good datacenter, or here in the bay area, or hell even in Nevada.

Anyways, glad to see nasioc is back up, good luck keeping it up.

What an interesting tidbit of information.
Is that why Imprezer has user ID number 1?
