i just went and test drove the new 08 hatch today and i can say i am very disappointed. first theres what every body crys about, design. ok the design is not attractive, so what. the only problem i have with the design is the doors, the new doors have that silly frame for the window when the door is open. i also do not like the seats they are wider which i like but they let you slide all over the place. the clutch in the hatch is another problem for me. the thing does not feel like a sports clutch. its super light and feels more like a gas pedal than a clutch pedal. the suspension rolls alot in the turns and is not that stiff. the intake manifold looks like its made of plastic too. ohh also from the drivers seat driving it it feels like a big sedan, looking over the hood that seems to go on for miles and and has big blind spots.

ok well thats all. there are some things i did like about it but not enough to sell it.

sorry to hear it Jason, though I kinda thought the new ones were going to be concentrated on comfort and the mainstream market rather than the enthusiats.

yeah i just got back from the 08 impreza test drive....my impressions : the rear is ugly as heck, the front i think will grow on me similar to the 06-07s...the interior of the car is ugly. The seats not comfortable at all (maybe i am used to my v7 seats)....the clutch feels like a honda, the car rolls quite a bit...the driver we had was phenomenally good though (English guy named Ryan with he said 10 years of rally experience)....its was a fun experience but i am not liking the 08 that much at all....

Something really needs to be done about the rear lights... Whatever aftermarket company that designs a red/clear simple replacement is going to make a killing! $$$

 

Agreed, 01 and below for the win. Love the GC coupe design... If subaru would have brought out a retro GC body, everyone and their mothers would be jumping in and buying one, I know I'd sell my 06WRX for one. But nooooo... Subaru throws us a disappointment spiral once again.

 

I think it is a work in progress. See... the thing is that the 5-door can be nice. The question is whether Subaru can pull it off or not. I dunno... with this generation, I feel that the styling was missing something. That it didn't have the characteristics that we typically associate with Subaru's. Oh well. Hopefully, there will be more changes is in '09.

 

I must be the only fool around that thinks it looks pretty damn good. I agree that the GC/GM was by far the prettiest body style thus far, but this is certainly a step in the right direction in terms of getting away from the super heinous bugeye.

I would sell my 06 in a minute if the 08's looked like the 01 and below Impreza. I know that a set of nice coilovers, some sway bars, some strut bars, new rear lights, and some new seats would fix the problems listed above. That just costs a good penny.
