I passed emissions in Northern California with an uppipe, catback, and a reflash (not even close on the emissions readings). You may be able to pass with a highflow downpipe that fits under the standard heatshield (so long as it looks stock - I don't think they look under the car for the third cat).
If you buy a new car, you don't have to get smogged for like 4 years, so I wouldn't worry too much.

what do u mean i need to learn how to drive the car first, i have driven different versions of the car, and i have already owned 2 other subies, both awd, thanx. so if u could try and actually answer the question, without hating on the person posting it, that would be great, thanx...***

Everything else can get you popped in an underhood inspection or smog time. Most other states will allow you to replace the downpipe if it has a highflow cat. You'll have to let us know exactly where you are though.
Utah, sorry! i forgot to mention it
