Knocking noise...need help
Just got done installing my ludespeed stage 2 turbo kit into my 2003 rs last week. Everything was going well intill a couple of days ago a buddy of mine took out my car without my permission. I don't know what he did but now the motor has a knocking noise well idel and acclerating. Could it be any internal damage? Accerlation under 3k is weak and also the oil catch can is catching oil . Need help. Thanks

dude.. if there is oil in your catch can that means you blew a piston ring.. the #4 piston is notorious for this... I knoe from personal experience.. Have a leak down, pressure test on your motor, and make "your buddy" pay for it.

If you have a noticeable amount of oil in your catchcan already... There's nothing I can say to make it easy on you. That's usually a sign of EXCESSIVE blowbye. And there's only a few things that cause blowbye. Worn rings, cracked rings, holes in pistons, extremely worn valve seals with a plugged exhaust and no valve seat ( I made that one up...)

both.
It could be either really.
My bet would be hitting the rev limiter and keeping it there too long. Or just driving it hard for too long. Things heat up over time. Heat soak is pretty bad. Not to mention the cooling system isn't made to keep up with continual high power ops.

so far i did compression test and the only cylinder wrong was the 4th....it only had half the compressions of what the other 3 were having....next i did a leak down test and my friend told me i could have bent one or two intake valves...i found out the problem of why oil was catching in the catch can and fixed it....a new problem came up when i started up the car a couple days ago....oil and coolant mixture in the exhaust system but anyways next im going to rip open the block to see what actually is going on. If it is just the bottom block that is the problem..My so called buddy is going to get me the sti usdm short block.

most likely head gasket if oil and coolant are in exhaust but i dont know how a valve could get bent unless he downshifted out of range of a gear which could explain the knock

Ripped out the block and checked to see what the problem was. Well it seems like a big chunk of the 4th piston blew. Anways my friend saw what he did and would like to get me a new block. I want to get the sti short block but wander about fitment issues. Would the RS flywheel and clutch fit onto the sti shortblock??? I read about the other swaps people did about the sti shortblock and it didnt mention about the fly and all. Does everything really bolt up as it were meant to be???

he chunked a piston wow go thing he is going to pay for it
the flywheel should not be a problem I think you need a clutch for the STI 6 spd because i know that is different

I figured it was the 4th piston.. that happenedd to me too, which is ok cuz now I have the STi shortblock. Anyway there are no fitment issues.. everything is a straight swap. The only problem you will run inot, is the water pipe that riuns across the top of the block. On the sti block there is an extra vent, and the water pipe runs right next to it.. you can either cut and re weld the water pipe or buy the sti pipe, for about 100 bucks.. hope this helps
