car shutting off?
i was wondering what would make my car just shut off?
id be at a light and out of nowhere my car shuts off.. (radior fan turns on then my idle gets crazy and then just drops, and shuts my car off) and my car just shutting off while i am driving...
this is really annoying and skurry

An engine rebuild probably isn't going to solve this problem. Most likely it's an idle air controller motor problem, a power issue (check connections and wiring harnesses), or a compression problem, which is in the head (valves). Take it to a certified Subaru mechanic and get a for sure answer.

Well, on my 98 2.2L it's on the left side of the intake manifold. It's a little rectangular shaped stepper-motor that feeds air directly into the manifold. It's why your engine idles higher at first while your car is rolling, for example, and drops down to it's eventual idle level. If it's broken, or having trouble getting signal, your car could idle bad or die. So, you said your car is dying when the radiator fans turn on?

thats the weird part, it doesnt always happen. sometimes i could have a hard time cranking over and doesnt want to stay on at all..
other times it turns then starts then has a unstable idle but still stays on
and at other times it will have the easiest time starting and will have a perfect idle..
:\ i option #3 wish that was the situation all the time

my car did that twice when I having coolant problems, car would shake and spurt, puke and cough, then shut off on its own. I unbolted the radiator cap, relieved the pressure(air bubbles in the system), then it seemed to run fine. COULD be coincidence, but hey, its worth a shot. Just take off the cap, the one on the radiator, leave the car run for a few minutes, then cap it!
