syKo-STi The Revival

In the beginning...

One of my first cars was a silver 1992 Loyale wagon. It was my first Subaru, and I really hated it.
Sure it never broke down but it, but 90 HP and 101 ft-lbs means you really can’t be in a hurry to get anywhere.

It looked like this but was silver:

Now, an intro to the Subarus I’ve bought since 2004.

2004 WRX
Purchased January 31, 2004
I sold this car in February 2005 with less than 9k miles on it.

2004 STi
Purchased December 20, 2004
I wrecked this car on June 16, 2005 after putting about 4k miles on it.

2002 2.5RS
Purchased July 10, 2005
This is the shell that will be converted to a (I call it) Version 7.5 STi using the parts from my 2004 STi.

1997 Legacy
Purchased July 01, 2005
This is my no-frills daily driver. The only mod is WRX wheels to replace the stock steelies.

STi before the accident:

The day after the wreck -- Ouch!

After sorting everything out with insurance, the car was towed to Vakamon to be stripped down for the swap.

The breakdown:

Over the next couple of weeks, the car was torn apart to the bare chassis.

The final goodbye:

The swap begins:

The conversion began on 07/29/05 with a stock 2002 RS 2.5 with 49k miles on it. The entire drivetrain and harness will be removed and swapped entirely with STi components. The end result will be to have a car that is appears 100% like it came off the factory as a USDM Bug-eye STi.

Out comes the original rear assembly.

And in goes the new stuff.

It's getting there:

The cam gear and timing belt were shredded, so they need to be replaced.

Time for the engine to go in!

Putting on the finishing touches to the wiring.
