this might be an off topic, since i pick up a 08 sti in the first week of may and i'm under 5k miles, what exact mileage for changing oil,and is there a specific oil and filter for sti? i know my old wrx i change every 3k, but not sure about the sti?.. thanks for checking...
didn't they give you a maintenance manuel along with the owner's manuel when you bought the car? i think most of the guys here change oil at 3,000 miles which is what i'm going to be doing. as for the filter, check the machine they have by the oil filters in the stores. what oil i think is everyone's own opinion

I went to full synthetic Mobil 1 and change every 5000 miles. The manual tells you to do it every 7500 miles with non-synthetic. The type of oil is kinda just up to you tho.
changing ur oil every 3k miles isn't necessary just so you know, unless you are tracking ur car all the time.

I've heard bad things about mobil-1 in sti's. Like burning a quart of oil every 1,000 miles and things like that :x. Have you experienced this?
If you read the warranty and maintenance booklet that came with car it says to change the oil every 3750 miles. Because the car is turboed it is considered to be operated under rougher conditions (even if you're not tracking it), and therefore they specify that the oil be changed more often.
I think this is a relatively new thing because my dad's 2005 Legacy GT does not say that he has to change every 3750. However, if you ever have a warranty claim I'm sure it would make your life a whole lot easier if you can prove you followed the maintenance schedule to a T... and an oil change is an easy thing to do to cover your ass.
