Some things are worth paying taxes for. I'm glad this is going through.

Yea, the death benefit really needed to be raised.

In a related story, the way the gov't screws over those that receive both military retirement & VA disability payments needs to change.
Presently, it goes something like this:
Say I retired from the Army after 20 years and receive $1000/month in a pension.
I also receive a $200/month disability payment from the VA.
You'd think that $2000 + $200 = $2200/month.
But using Fed gov't logic, I get one check for $1800, which is taxed, and another check for $200 that isn't taxed.

As a disabled vet myself, I got a "big raise" in my monthly compensation: $2.00!!

Ahhhh, finally something HellaDumb and I agree on. This is long overdue.

As well as what Oaf was saying about how the government treats disabled veterans and retirees also needs to change. Here's to hoping

Side note on how it is a Democratic senator from Michigan that is pushing for the benefits to be extended to ALL active service personel. You see not all lefties are so bad now are they? And us Michigan-peeps aren't so bad either!!

Being a Democrat has little to do with pushing this for the troops. Many Democrats have served and all of them are pro-military family. To claim the opposite makes you a monster.

Have republicans done more for servicemen? Probably, but it's certainly no shock that a Michigan Democrat is pushing this proposal. Furthermore, being a Democrat is totally different than being a "lefty"or leftist.

Good think I didn't claim the opposite cause I wouldn't want to be a monster.
I was just pointing stuff out! I'm from Michigan and voted for Levin. He's a good senator, always has been regardless of party affiliation. Lighten up man....Seems like you need to relax a little.

Oh and BTW please don't censure my post if you don't agree with it. I know you are the mod of this forum. I don't want to upset you!

Does the military still offer a great life insurance policy, when I was in it was like $8.00 a month got your loved ones a million dollars in coverage.
