LOL. Love the puppy-leg pic :P Thanks for all the warm welcomes! It's been a SUPER hectic weekend; the bf and I got some wheelpainting done (gold!), replaced front calipers & rotors with an '02 WRX's... flushed pretty much all kinds of fluids... and he's looking SMEXY pics to come later, when I'm done writing my hopelessly confusing paper for an education class >>

Hey everyone! Finally got the guts (and car) to make my first post here I picked up my '01 2.5 RS last Friday from fellow i-club/ RS25 member (chochocho - thanks SO much for everything!), and the bf (anonypuff) and I spent the entire weekend claybar-ing and waxing and prettying it up for it's first appearance here ^^

Here he is!

Still trying to think up a name for this guy... I'll get up a list of current and future mods later Off the top of my head... he's got an STI strut bar, a bunch of Whiteline bushings, JDM taillights/ sidemarkers, and I suspect he's got a short shifter installed but I'm not quite sure o.o

So.. here I am ^^

Eva
Howdy! It's a Kartboy short shifter with the Kartboy bushings to go with it. It also has the STi Group N mounts/bushings which tightens up everything in there. I put those K&N stickers on the airbox. It has a WRX 20mm rear sway bar, but with different endlinks (might not have been noticed). I think chochocho listed all the Whiteline stuff, but if not let me know.

When I got it (bought it on my birthday in 2004 in the Milpitas In-n-Out parking lot, had 55k miles) it was stock except for HIDs that did not work well and a ScoobySport axleback. I bought it and pretty much did all the mods that chochocho bought it with. He added some nice items to the car and I must say it looks really great still! Glad you are enjoying it, it was a great car. I miss the sound - I have a vid somewhere of me driving off in it. When I had it, it had a Borla header, RT cat pipe and that classic H&S ScoobySport axleback to finish it off. It was... Rumbly. I like the look of the new twin-tip as well. Those were tips that were cut off an older but new condition HKS exhaust and welded on - custom exhaust was built by County Muffler in Belmont right before I sold it since I thought the system I had on there was too loud to sell the car with.

It's only been on a race track twice and that was at Laguna Seca once as a parade lap and once on a fun run after the day was done (I volunteer for NASA safety crew). Never driven in anger by me.

Funny thing - those wheels are not the original wheels from the car - I bought those when I got it (they are gold now????). It came to me with WRX rims as the fellow I got it from had 18" gold Rota Formels on it which I did not want. The WRX wheels I got on that car went on my old '95 coupe which my wife drove for a couple years, then I sold in 2005 and... Just bought it back last week with the same wheels on it! Too funny...

Weird I thought I put WRX front calipers on there when I did the front/rear Porterfield brakes. Only thing I bought but didn't install was the caliper brackets needed to install the WRX rotors.

Oh also, you have Infinity Kappa components and tweeters in the doors which are also dynamatted, and there are the Infinity Kappa woofers with the x-overs in the back. They can handle a lot of power but you should run new wires since they are using the factory wiring now. As odd as this might sound, I think I just found a spare key for that car. I can mail it to you, if it's not for that one you can throw it away. I was going through some stuff and found this Subaru key - it's the only one I can think it could be from, but I am not sure why I would still have it.

Only thing to consider really is it has the JDM STi front bumper beam which some people do not consider to be safe. I feel it improved the handling, and I did not ever plan on crashing the car, and if it's safe enough for JDM it's safe enough for me. But seriously, the car has airbags in it and I figured any front end collision where that bumper would cause a serious problem - I would probably have more things to worry about - but I felt it was something that should be disclosed when I sold it.

The horns are pretty cool right? I miss those too.

^^ Wow, thanks for the history lesson on the car! Always good to know the history of our cars! While working on the car this weekend I was just telling Eva how I felt the previous owner had taken good care of the car, it's actually quite clean under the car/hood for a car of it's age.

I was actually going to pick up a paranoid fabrications grounding kit but noticed this weekend there was already a bunch of grounding wires around the engine bay, saves me some cash!

And yes, we painted the wheels gold this weekend too, came out pretty good for my first set of painted wheels.. not perfect, but not bad at all. We'll get some pics and add it to the thread soon.

The calipers and rotors on there were diff not WRX as the set we installed was a bit larger then the ones on the car. I'm not sure if this set of pads on the car were from you or Cho but I found extremely odd wear on the pads. The inside pad on the right caliper was almost completely gone, i'm talking 5% remaining, while the rest of the pads all had about 30-40% pad life left. We ordered a new set of pads but I'm wondering what could of caused that type of wear.. alignment maybe?

I also noticed the kappa x-over in the rear and I'm pretty sure they're under powered at the moment. Also, the factory sub isn't working at the moment but I haven't had a chance to go into the wiring of that yet, was the sub installed by you? or was it working when you had the car?

I've told Eva not to tailgate anyone with the JDM bumper beam on that car, I believe it takes quite a bit of weight off the front of the car which may have contributed to better handling, up to her if she wants to replace it though.

If you're not too far from Milpitas we'd love to pick up the key from you, you could see your old car again

Oh yeah, it does have a bunch of grounding wires - probably only a total of 4 but yeah, they are basically black grounding cables from Kragen - didn't want it to look blingy.

It was pretty clean already but I cleaned the engine with Simple Green and a toothbrush when I got it, and when I replaced the clutch master/slave/ss hose I also took the opportunity to clean the top of the crankcase and that whole area. I pulled the seats/console and shampoo'd the carpets and floor mats too. More fun to work on if it's clean. The only dirt under that hood (IIRC) was on the "front" of the power steering reservoir cap.

Very strange about the brakes as '01 2.5 RS uses the same calipers as '02 WRX, just with smaller brackets that mount them closer to the hub and with smaller rotors (unless I am just confuzzled here haha). Those brackets and rotors went with the car when I let it go so I just thought they would be on the car by now, but who knows where they ended up I guess. Anyway the calipers being the same is why I felt silly thinking I had an upgrade with just the '02 WRX calipers. No worries - "it is in the past" and you are doing the right thing with it from the sound!

That pad wear is possibly from a seized caliper so it's great that you changed them! It happens. Could also be a line issue on the other side but if all other pad wear is inline and the one caliper is all that is extra worn, I would suspect the caliper itself. The pads I put on were Porterfield R4-S pads on all 4 corners but I have no idea if they were changed in the last 3 yrs. Those are hands-down my favorite street brake pad.

The under-seat subwoofer has never been connected when I had the car. Never looked into it once I heard my friend's stock sub in his WRX if you catch my drift. The Kappas are most assuredly underpowered at the moment but that is why I chose them - they work "good enough" with the stock '02 WRX HU but would also come alive with power behind them especially with the dynamatted doors. If I would have used Kappa Perfects for example, they would have sounded like **** till they had power, plus the x-over and tweeters were MUCH larger and I wanted it all to basically not draw attention.

It's pretty cool to see the car still in the community - we often wonder what became of our previous cars! I would like to know where my WRX is right now... Or maybe I wouldn't! Ha.. Anyway, I know chochocho too great care of the car and he was very interested in doing the right things with it. Glad it still looks so nice (actually better now that he added the JDM tails...).

Not sure if you ended up with "the folder" of all the receipts for things purchased for the car but if you did you would probably laugh at all the Subaru factory parts I replaced that "I probably didn't need to." I treated that car as though I would own it forever as that was my intention.

Wow...all the history on the car. Kudos to you, Wombatsauce.

Now...can you tell me whether the alarm horn on the car is stock? I really like the alarm sound on the car. Much better than the '02 alarm horn.

I put that on... It's a State of Hawaii Safety Check sticker. Should leave it, only way to have one is if the car's been there.

It's a factory alarm horn for the '01 security system as far as I know, but I covered the horn outlet in a bit of 10mil fuel line tape (seems cheesy I know) to quiet it down and keep water out of it. It sounded good, but was just a little too loud of a chirp.

Welcome to the club! You actually have a car that has been driven around Laguna Seca... how lucky are you? Not so lucky it was you who did the driving I guess. Maybe one day though huh? He looks rather nice so far. Good luck with him in the future!
