With that engine...the Back to the Future car would've had no problems getting to 86 (or whatever the speed was)

Hmmm.... A WRX is nearly 3500 lbs with a full tank of gas. The Delorean is actually quite light compared to the sports cars of its time.

I will admit that I overstated the weight of the delorean. After a quick search I found that it is closer to 3000 lbs, but the curb weight of the wrx is 3085 lbs.

Curb weight is around 2800 with the stock 6 in it. There are others with Buick GN turbocharged 3.8 V6, and 20B twin turbo rotary's. Guys are also using Porsche 6 speed gear boxes.

Actually, the only porsche tranny I've heard of them using is the old 944 automatic tranny. It's very difficult to get something else to fit where that renault Alpine tranny fits.

Any links to people putting in the 20B?

Here are two of the many different DMC sites that I have saved on my comp. You can use the web ring to find more. The Porsche trans was a 6 speed manual, don't know what model it was pulled from. I am assuming a 911 style car since DMC's are RR too.

I have a co-worker with a Delorean from the last year they were produced; he said the only direct-fit swap he's heard of is a turbo Volvo engine -- anything else requires significant bay mods. I'll show him this thread, he'll freak out. Subaruski, can you link to the original thread/source of the pics?

For the other motors they did require different motor mounts. The guy with the 3.8T said it was a pretty easy conversion.
